Rod Houston competition final day...
News Date 04/10/2023
The destination of the 2023 Rod Houston Cup was decided this morning after a commanding performance by Presentation College over Loreto, Kilkenny.  The first half was very close with both teams giving their all.  Presentation grabbed the initiative in the 3rd minute of the second half when Abbie Duffy calmly scored from the spot after the referee ruled a challenge 'clumsy'.  Anna Jordon extended the lead seven minutes later which confirmed Presentation as this years winners.

The game between Caerleon and South Hunsley was also a close affair with the teams tied at 1-1 at the break, courtesy of goals from Hollie Sutton (South Hunsley) and Amelia Collins (Caerleon).  South Hunsley discovered their best form in the second half, however, as Connie Baker, Lucy Hope and Sara Harris all found the net.

During the post tournament awards at which every participant received a commemorative medal, the Nigel Brown Award for outstanding contribution was made to Yasmin Mainwaring of Caerleon for her team leadership skills.  Very well earned.

Overall, an excellent tournament in which players, staff, match officials and spectators all contributed to a memorable event which many in football could learn from!
